“Marriage is what brings us together today.”

Though culture has often relegated marriage to an antiquated or unnecessary institution, marriage is designed by God and flourishes when we submit to His rules. It not only provides security, companionship, and intimacy, it also demonstrates a visible picture of Christ’s love for the church. Ephesians 5 lays foundational principles for followers of Christ as a whole and then moves to specific commands for a variety of relationships. The chapter concludes (v. 21-33) by explaining marriage principles and roles by calling husbands and wives to live in love and respect for the other.

Evaluate:

  • How does popular culture define or view marriage?

  • How would you define the roles of a husband and wife?

Reflect:

  • If single, dating, or married, how can you demonstrate sacrificial love towards those around you?

  • According to Ephesians 5, what defines a godly husband?

  • According to Ephesians 5, what defines a godly wife?

  • In what ways should marriage give a picture of Christ’s love for the church?
