Day 7

In John 8 we see one more amazing example of how Jesus showed grace to a woman in his day. The woman caught in adultery was intended by the Pharisees to be a legal and moral predicament for Jesus. How would he respond to a clear, blatant sin? But Jesus, knowing the hearts of all people, turned the focus from the example of one’s public sin to the reality of everyone’s private sin. He caught the accusers guilty of the very accusation they were making, and made grace the motivation to go and sin no more.

Evaluate:

• How have you found yourself condemning other’s public sins while excusing your private sins? (See Matt. 7:3-5)
• Jesus addresses the heart issue of sin. What does he say about the gravity of lust in Matt. 5:27-28?

Reflect:

• Jesus does not condone the woman’s sin, but forgives her and tells her to go and sin no more. For you, how is forgiveness a motivating factor to “Go and sin no more”? 
• How does receiving forgiveness from God connect to forgiving others? (Eph. 4:32)
• Have you ever used the promise of God's forgiveness as an excuse to go and sin more? (Romans 6:1-2)
