Our good conduct is so powerful that it influences everyone from within our homes to outside of it.

1 Peter 3 is a call to do good, not only in our marriages but also in our suffering and before a watching world. Peter says our good conduct is so powerful that it influences everyone from within our homes (v.1-7) to outside of it (v.15-17). Doing good can change marriages, dating, and pi2 relationships. Notice how it should affect the way we interact...

  • In our homes
    • A wife influences an unbelieving husband (1-2)
    • A priority is placed on inward beauty rather than simply being noticed for external appeal (3-4)
    • A husband honors, respects, and cares for his wife (5-7)
  •  In our suffering
    • We trust God during suffering (v. 13, 14, 17)
  • In our outreach relationships
    • Our gentle response and good behavior puts malicious accusers to shame (v. 8,9,15,16)

Peter then points our attention on Jesus Christ, who did the ultimate good in his suffering and dying on the cross for our sins in order to bring us to God. He is our greatest example.

Evaluate:

  • Has there ever been a time in your life when someone may not have said anything, but their actions turned you toward or away from God?

  • Where does 1 Peter 3 apply to your life today? Home? Marriage? Suffering? Outreach relationships?

Reflect:

  • What does verse 4 explain about God’s feeling toward a woman who focuses on inward beauty?

  • What powerful effect does a wife’s behavior have on an unbelieving husband?

  • How does verse 7 relate to verse 12 in the life of a husband?

  • How can you fix your eyes on Jesus today?
